Food and Love

October 3, 2016 Katie Archibald-Woodward

The conflict is exhausting and inescapable.  But, food and love help you survive.  Saturday morning I experienced these truths come to life as I feasted on simple, delectable Yemini delights typical for Shabbos (Yiddish for Shabbat).  Thanks to the loving preparations of Sharon we were nourished by hot, flakey jahnun, a pastry of rolled phylo dough with ghee in between the many oven-crisp layers, which we topped with crushed tomatoes, and enjoyed with boiled eggs on the side.  As I filled my belly in the company of these three fast friends I found my heart filled, as well.
