Saturday morning I went out photographing in downtown Atlanta with a group I'm part of, Women In Focus. I had the great blessing of meeting Joe and Wheel and another man who worked in one of the parking decks. After getting to hear a little bit of each of their stories and make their portraits they gave me the most genuine, appreciative hugs. It was just this natural, almost subconscious reaction that came from each of them, my neighbors -- my brothers.
As I reflect back on the morning, I find myself asking, how did I get to be so fortunate to experience such love? But I think it's that love that is ready and waiting for us any and every moment we decide to open ourselves to each other, and engage each other genuinely and authentically--as people, as human beings. And when we do that core substance shines and is shared: love.
